2.70 | Fundamentals of Precision Product Design

A graduate course on deterministic design, selection, & assembly of machine elements

Topics include precision machine design
principles, error apportionment & error budgeting, machine elements, mechanical connections & interfaces, power transmission, structures, selection of manufacturing methods and materials. For hands-on learning, students form teams of two and every two weeks design and build three copies of a project demonstrating the fundamental design principle discussed that week and compare their results with their predictions.
